Produced in Poulton le Fylde, Lancashire, England, Andy Summers started piano lessons when he was a young child, and then changed his focus to guitar when he was thirteen. Throughout the 60s and early 70s, Andy played with multiple groups, such as Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band, Dantalion’s Chariot, and The Animals, with whom he recorded one record. He also performed with such musicians as Jon Lord, Neil Sedaka, and Kevin Ayers. In 1977, he joined the group that will start him into superstardom. He became the guitarist for The Police. The group would win multiple Grammy Awards and sell 80 million records over the course of the next seven years, before disbanding.
