Henley, the son of Hughlene (McWhorter) and C. J. Henley, was born on July 22, 1947 in Gilmer, Texas, United States. Henley grew up in Linden (small Texas town in northeast). His dad was the owner of an auto parts store and his mother was a teacher. Henley’s dad was dying from heart and arterial disorder so he left his school to spend time with him. Henley graduated from high school in 1965. In his high school he formed a band called The Four Speeds with his childhood friends Richard Bowden and Jerry Surratt. Then he attended the Stephen F. Austin State UniversityinNacogdoches, Texas. After that Henley enrolled himself in North Texas State University inDenton, Texas, from 1967 to 1969. After completing his schooling in North Texas State University he transferred to Los Angeles in 1970. Don in Los Angeles recorded an album with Shiloh, his early band. Soon after that Don Henley met Glenn Frey. Meeting Shiloh proved to be the turning point in his life. Initially, Don and Glen became the member of the Linda Ronstadt’s backup band. After two months of joining Linda Ronstadt’s backup band they formed Eagles along with Bernie LeadonandRandy Meisner.
