Duane Hagadone was born on September 3, 1932 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He’s the son of Burl and Beverly Hagadone. He’s the sole son and oldest of three kids in the family. The older Hagadone began serving as the publisher of the local paper, the Coeur d’Alene Press, in 1936. During the time, the paper was one of several owned by the E. W. Scripps Company. When Hagadone was a young lad, he got additional money in Coeur d’Alene, by caring for the yard work and landscaping of his neighbors. When he was 11 years old, he started working for the Coeur d’Alene Press, delivering papers.
