Geezer Butler wiki & biography:

What is Geezer Butler’s net worth? Produced in Aston, Birmingham, England, Geezer Butler, also known as Terence Michael Joseph Butler, started his first band in the late 60s with buddy Ozzy Osbourne. The very first group, Rare Breed, lasted merely a brief time because of the two musicians working in different places. The reformed a few years later, and finally renamed their group, Black Sabbath. A rhythm guitarist originally, he switched to bass guitar when Black Sabbath formed, and became one of the very first bass players to use the “Wah-wah” pedal. He was the primary lyricist for the group and performed with them until 1984. The rhythm formed the Geezer Butler Band in the mid 80s, and then returned to perform with Black Sabbath.
Terence Michael Joseph “Geezer” Butler (created 17 July 1949 in Birmingham, England) is an English musician and songwriter. Butler is best known as the bassist and primary lyricist of heavy metal band Black Sabbath. He’s also recorded with Heaven & Hell, GZR, and Ozzy Osbourne.

Butler grew up in an working-class Irish Catholic family and was greatly influenced by the writing of Aleister Crowley as a teen. Butler formed his first band, Rare Breed, in the autumn of 1967, with John “Ozzy” Osbourne soon joining as lead vocalist. Butler dated a girl who lived near Tony Iommi, and Iommi’s earliest memories of Butler involved seeing him walking past his house in Birmingham quite frequently to see her. Later, Iommi and Butler became acquainted when their groups played in a closeby nightclub. They renamed their band World, but after finding a band in the small time English circuit together with the same name, shortly adopted Black Sabbath in early 1969. When Sabbath was formed, Iommi made it clear he would not need to play with another guitarist, so Butler moved to bass guitar. Butler lists Jack Bruce of Cream as his biggest influence as a bassist. Iommi described Butler as being “from a different planet” in the band’s early days; he took LSD, wore Indian hippie dresses, and was really peaceful. In the time Black Sabbath was formed, Butler was studying to become an accountant, which training resulted in him managing the band’s financing in the first days. Butler briefly left Black Sabbath during the recording of the 1980 album Heaven and Hell. He again left the group in 1984 after touring in support of the 1983 album, Born Again. In 1988 he joined his former Sabbath bandmate Osbourne to be a part of the No Rest for the Wicked World Tour. Butler re-joined Black Sabbath in 1991 for the reunion of the Mob Rules lineup, but again quit the group following the Cross Purposes tour in 1994.
