He’s most commonly known for the Friday show (a 1995 American stoner buddy comedy movie directed by F. Gary Gray in his directorial debut, and starring Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Bernie Mac, Robert Lockhart). Witherspoon also starred in such movies as Hollywood Shuffle (1987) and Boomerang (1992). He went to make appearances on television shows such as The Wayans Bros. (1995–99), The Tracy Morgan Show (2003), Barnaby Jones (1973) and The Boondocks (2005). John Witherspoon has also wrote the movie From the Old School, where he took on the function of an aged working man who tried to prevent a neighborhood convenience store from being developed into a strip club. In 1977, Witherspoon became a regular on the show The Richard Pryor Show, an NBC American comedy series. This led to his appearance in WKRP In Cincinnati in 1978. He also made guest appearances on such shows as 227 and The Cosby Show.
