In 1987, the Duo released their first record, Paid in full, and it went to become one of the most powerful hip hop record of all time. The record achieved a moderate Success and sold more than five hundred thousand copies. It was declared gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. It was lyrically more coherent compared to the previous albums by the duet. It received rave reviews from the critics for it is thick lyrics. Do not Sweat the Technique was the last record declared by the celebrated Duet in 1992. It was a small hit. The couple split as a result of legal and private problems afterwards.

As a solo artist Rakim released albums such as 1997 ‘The 18th Letter’, 1999 The Master, 2008 The Archive: Live, Lost & Found, and 2009 The Seventh Seal. Rakim’s solo attempt was critically accepted. “Rakim worked with Dr. Dre as well for a while but they separated because of creative differences. About his record The Seventh Seal, Rakim once said, he number 7 has a lot of importance. The Seventh Seal deals with that and also some disclosures in the Bible. By me naming my record that, I’m using it metaphorically in hip hop. I’m hoping to kill the old state of hip hop and start with the new.” He once said, “The seals are from the Bible—Revelations and the coming of the Apocalypse. But Islam, Judaism, Christianity—all have a model of the same events. The Lion of Judah breaks the seven seals one by one, each imparting knowledge and inflicting calamity, ending with seven trumpets declaring the end of Times. After the Apocalypse, God rises from the ashes to recreate the Kingdom, choosing just the greatest components from days gone by together. When you have a look at Hip Hop, I wish to accomplish that: to spit fire and require our greatest from the ashes to build our kingdom; to understand all the regional styles, aware lyrics, the tracks, underground, mainstream, the way we treat each other. Lose the rubbish and reconstruct our scene. I’ve consistently tried to fit consciousness and spirituality within my records, interpreting the writings of cultures and religions and how they apply to life these days.”

“To be truthful, being the game has changed so much, you come hoping for the best and expecting the worst. To my surprise, there’s a lot of love out here for me.”

“What was once easy became bemused and difficult, which brings us back to the mystic issue, who is God?” “I’ll take seven emcees, set ’em in a line. Add seven more brothers who believe they could rhyme. It’ll take seven more before I go for my, and that’s 21 emcees ate up at exactly the same time.” “Letting off ammo in every direction, Allah is my only protection. But wait a minute, Saddam Hussein begs the same.”
