A rap artist and performer, Sandra Denton is most widely recognized for her work using the successful rap group, Salt-n-Pepa. Salt-n-Pepa released five studio albums, which attained Gold or Platinum status. Denton, normally known as “Pepa”, was born in Kingston, Jamaica in November 1969. Her family moved to the Big Apple when she was a child and she studied nursing at Queensborough Community College. In school her family met Cheryl “Salt” James and five studio recorded a single called “The Showstopper”. In 1986 Denton and James added Deidra “Spinderella” Roper to the group as their DJ. The group became known as Salt-n-Pepa and also the trio released five studio albums. Salt chose to depart the music industry in 2002 but they reunited at the 2005 VH1 Hip Hop Honors awards. Pepa was cast in 2005 in the VH1 reality series The Surreal Life and returned for The Surreal Life: Fame Games. Salt-n-Pepa got back together in 2008 and happen to be said to be working on a new record. Pepa continues to be featured on Let’s Talk About Pep and The Salt-N-Pepa Show. Her autobiography was launched in 2008. There were claims that Pepa’s husband physically abused her and the couple divorced in 2001.

In 2002, the group disbanded.
