Steven was born Steven Lento in Winthrop, Massachusetts in November 1950. Steven is usually known as Little Steven or Miami Steve. After his mother remarried he chose the last name of his stepfather William. Growing up in the Jersey Shore, Steven became buddies with Bruce Springsteen. Van Zandt is partially credited together with the touch guitar line in the hit Springsteen single “Born to Run”.
