Soon after, Tareq announced he would run against Cucinelli in the 2013 election for Governor of Virginia. In May 2013, the acreage and buildings of the previous Oasis Winery was sold at auction for $1.1 million in order to satisfy lenders, marking the ending of the Salahi family participation with Oasis Winery.
