Timothy Theodore “Tim” Duncan was born in Christiansted on the Virgin Islands on April 25, 1976. Duncan was a good pupil in school and he dreamed of becoming a professional Olympic level swimmer. As a kid he started as a swimmer, but was forced to cease swimming when Hurricane Hugo destroyed the only Olympic-sized pool in his home town St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands in 1989, after which he started playing basketball.
